Santos was the Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army, - Then came December 1937. Extensive preparations to wipe
out the latest flare-up of Muslim outlawry in Lanao were taken
by the Philippine Army. - Major General Santos, the first Filipino station commander in
Taraka, knew the terrain of Lanao. He therefore, ordered the
bombing by airplanes, the first-time bombers were to be used
in the Muslim campaign. - Taraka Cotta was one of the most formidable among the
outlaw fortresses captured after a three-day siege. However,
demolition of other cottas were temporarily suspended due to
the danger of incurring heavy casualties should the campaign
be continued without adequate equipment and additional
forces
